The Region




The thriving historic market town of Newark has much to offer.

A wealth of individual shops including home and gift stores, delicatessens and butchers both specialising in local produce, stationers, lingerie and boutiques as well as the usual high street shops, banks and building societies.  A good range of restaurants, day cafes and public houses.  For entertainment the Newark Palace Theatre offers a wide range of productions including showing recent films.  There is also The Grove Leisure Centre, ten pin bowling and bingo.  Eden Hall Day Spa is situated just off the A46 approximately 6 miles south of Newark. Newark’s market remains extremely popular with markets held four days a week.

The conservation area of Millgate is an attractive area to visit with riverside walks, the sensory garden, Newark Town Lock, Newark Castle, Newark Marina and Civil War Museum.

Annual events include Newark on Water Fesitval and the Beer Festival.

Newark Showground holds regular events including the renowned Antique Fairs and Nottinghamshire County Agricultural Show held in May.


The nearby cities of Nottingham and Lincoln have excellent universities.  Newark College – branch of Lincoln College offers a wide variety of courses and world famous Violin school.  Three secondary schools serve Newark & Balderton.  Children of primary school age are well catered for and there are a number of day nurseries and playgroups.


Located just off the A1, Newark has good road links to the North and South.  The A46 allows easy access to Nottingham and the cathedral city of Lincoln.  Newark has two railway stations providing links to other cities including London, Peterborough, York, Edinburgh, Lincoln, Skegness and Nottingham.  Approximate travel time to London, 1 hour and 20 minutes.

The city of Nottingham, 21 miles from Newark provides excellent shopping facilities and places to eat out.  Entertainment venues are numerous; The Theatre Royal, The Concert Hall and The Warner Village.  Sporting venues include; The National Ice Stadium, Nottingham Race Course, Trent Bridge for world class cricket and Holme Pierrepoint National Water Sports Centre.  Annual events include The Goose Fair held every October.


The cathedral city of Lincoln, 16 miles from Newark, is a vibrant university city with a world renowed Cathedral.  The famous Uphill area offers a wide variety of places to eat and drink.  Annual events include the Christmas market held in December.
